Since Tesla produced its first car in 2008, dozens of new companies have announced intentions to enter the vehicle market. Some have appeared at auto shows with convincing prototypes. Others were conjured into existence by those seemingly more fluent in HTML than horsepower. We imagine the dawn of the mass-produced automobile 100 years ago was something like this past decade, although Volkswagen, General Motors, and Toyota will likely prove to be more entrenched than the horse-and-buggy trade.

Among the film’s hard bodies and the muscled engines, there’s a sexy little number that stands head and haunches above the rest: It’s called the Lykan HyperSport. The car is a $3.4 million beast with a top speed of 240 miles per hour and the face of a raptor. The huge audiences who saw the movie this past weekend won’t soon forget it—even if they’ll likely never see the vehicle in real life.

LM2 Streamliner concept debut

On Monday, four days after Lyons Motor Car was set to debut its 290-mph hypercar at the New York auto show, the company finally had something on its show stand.
It's not a car. Wedged between an escalator and a snack counter sits a hunk of fiberglass-encased foam carved into a relative likeness of the concept drawings that hit the Internet two weeks ago.
The LM2 Streamliner is a homegrown hypercar with a top speed of nearly 300 mph.

Lyons Motor Car to Debut 1,700HP LM2 Streamliner at the New York Auto Show

Startup car makers promising stellar performance from cars that don’t exist yet are nothing new. Meet Lyons Motor Car, a US-based company that says it plans to build a 1,700hp car called LM2 Streamliner which will be able to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a “guaranteed” 2.2 seconds “or better” and to do the quarter mile in 8 seconds. It also claims an estimated top speed of 290 mph (467 km/h).
